The Pomares                          April 2015
Dear friends,
We send you our warmest greetings!  One of the things that we love most about our call to bring the gospel to Mexican university students is to see how their lives are being changed by its power.  We’d like to take a moment to share Yani’s story with you:
“Hi.  My name is Yani Morales and I am 21 years old.  Right now I am in my fourth year of studying law at BUAP university.  I love spending time with my family and friends, and I really enjoy drawing and listening to music, too.
A little over a year ago, I found myself in a very difficult period of my life.  I thought there was no reason to go on with my life, and each day I felt more and more invaded by a deep sadness.  I felt like I was stuck in a maze with no way out.  I stopped caring about everything, even my health - my life seemed totally pointless.
Then, on September 20, 2013, my friend Abi invited me to CRU.  It’s funny - at first I didn’t want to go because she had told me that it was a Christian group, and the last thing I wanted was for somebody to talk to me about God.  But that day when I went home, I felt regret about not going and said to myself, “Why not?”  So when the day came and I went to the meeting, a girl from the group, Pamela, came over and hugged me.  Her happiness was amazing to me, and I wanted to know what was making her so happy.  So I went back again the next Monday.  That day, a guy named Othón sat down and talked to me and told me about his life.  He told me about how Jesus had given him a new purpose for his life.  The next day, I talked with some of the other guys in the group, who told me their story about how Jesus had become part of their life.  While I was on a trip with the group to do a service project, where they would be showing a video about Jesus, I decided to accept and follow Jesus Christ.  I wanted my life to change and not to feel so empty and depressed anymore.  Knowing Jesus was the key to getting free of that heavy burden.
Now that I know Christ, I love to talk about him with my classmates at the university and my family.  I also want to show them that it was God who healed me from that darkness of that time in my life that felt like it was killing me.  Every time I feel like I’m in a maze with no way out, I know that God is by my side, and I yield to Him at every moment.  He gave me an indescribable happiness, and I continue to have it now that I know Him.  I don’t mean to say that now that I’m a Christian everything goes perfectly in my life, not at all!  All I know is that I am not alone, and that Jesus is by my side to fight my every battle.  He is the one leading me down the long and beautiful path of new life in Christ.”
Thank you so much for partnering with us as we continue to see stories like Yani’s,  your prayers and your financial support are vitally important for this to happen.

Prayer requests:

  • That Yani would continue growing in her relationship with Christ.
  • That more university students would be transformed by the message of the gospel.
  • That God would continue to use us as a family in order to help students grow in their relationship with Christ.
  • That God would provide for our entire family to attend the Student Conference in Panama in July.
